To give my showroom a strong visual identity, I decided to make the sign myself. It was a real DIY project, combining metalwork, painting, and electrical work. Here are the steps I followed to create this centerpiece, which blends perfectly with my living wall and shines brightly once night falls.
1. Sheet metal cutting and assembly
It all started with cutting a piece of sheet metal to serve as the base for the sign. I chose a thick piece to ensure good strength, while still being easy enough to work with. Next, I attached this sheet metal to two metal hoops, which I secured using a welding machine. This gave the sign depth and a more structured look.
2. Weld finishing
After welding the bands, it was necessary to grind the welds to eliminate imperfections and smooth the joints between the different parts. This grinding step is crucial for achieving a clean and professional finish.
3. Application of the primer coat
To protect the metal from corrosion and ensure good paint adhesion, I applied a coat of primer. This product seals the metal and prevents rust from appearing over time, especially in an environment where moisture could seep in.
4. Finishing paint
Once the primer was dry, I opted for a matte black topcoat. This color blends perfectly with the overall aesthetic of my showroom, while creating an elegant contrast with the living wall on which the sign would be installed. I carefully applied several coats for a uniform and long-lasting finish.
5. Electrical system installation
To add a touch of brightness and attract attention, I created an internal lighting system using an LED strip. This strip, placed inside the sign, diffuses a soft and even light, ideal for highlighting the store's logo, especially at night.
6. Personalization with stickers
The next step was to personalize the sign. I applied stickers featuring the store's logo, perfectly adapted to the size and curves of the sign. These stickers reflect the brand's visual identity while adding a professional touch to the overall look.
7. Installation on the green wall
The finishing touch was installing the sign on the living wall of my showroom. The contrast between the vegetation and the black metal, enhanced by the LED lighting, creates a unique and immersive atmosphere. Once night falls, the sign illuminates, revealing the brilliance of the logo and providing a striking visual effect.
