Renovation and Improvement of an Above-Ground Garden Pond: A Transformative Aquatic Project I'm happy to share my recent above-ground garden pond renovation project, which has been given a new lease of life through a complete reconstruction, the addition of new sections, and technical improvements. It's a rectangular preformed pond made of rigid PVC, originally concealed by a wooden frame.

However, over time the wooden structure had deteriorated severely, which required a complete rethink and redesign to restore the whole to its original splendor, or even better.
1. Dismantling of the Primary Basin
The first step in this project was to completely strip the existing pool. This involved removing the old wooden frame, which was rotten. This dismantling allowed me to assess the condition of the PVC pool and to consider a new, solid base.
2. Reconstruction of the Wooden Structure
Next, I tackled the complete reconstruction of the wooden structure around the original pond. I opted for treated wood to ensure better resistance to weathering and humidity, while also providing a more modern and robust aesthetic. This new framework not only offers better support, but it also allows the pond to blend more seamlessly into its surroundings.
3. Creation of Two New Interconnected Basins
One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the creation of two new additional pools. I wanted to create a visual and auditory dynamic with waterfalls connecting each pool. These waterfalls allow the water to circulate harmoniously between the three pools, adding a calming effect while also promoting water aeration.

4. Electrical System Design and Installation of New Pumps
With the addition of the two new ponds, a complete overhaul of the electrical system was necessary. I installed a new pump to ensure water circulation between the ponds, as well as an improved filtration system. At the same time, I also added lighting to highlight the ponds at night. Underwater spotlights and edge lights illuminate the entire area, creating a magical ambiance after sunset.

5. Aquatic Design: New Plants and Planting
Finally, the finishing touch was provided by a complete overhaul of the aquatic plants. Some plants naturally filter the water, while others bring lush greenery that contrasts beautifully with the water and the wood.
This project was both a technical and aesthetic adventure. The end result is a relaxing space where water, wood, and plants coexist in harmony, offering a vibrant and soothing ecosystem to admire every day.
